Troubleshooting

PC

My PC does not recognise the webcam

Please ensure that the webcam is plugged into a USB port and not a USB hub. Then try the following:

To check if this is the case, open AMCap.- If any error messages appear, clear them with OK. In the Devices menu, look for “Venus USB 2.0 webcam” and “Microphone (Venus USB 2.0 webcam)”. If both of these devices are present, then the system is recognising the camera. Make sure that these are selected in the Devices menu.
If one or both of these devices is missing, please check that the camera is properly connected to the computer. You can also try to reboot you computer, then go back to AMCap and check the devices again.

Try plugging the camera into a different USB port. If the camera is plugged into one of the ports in the front try one of the ports in the rear of the computer. Try to uninstall the driver and do a fresh install with any antivirus software temporarily disabled.

You may also want to try on another computer if possible, as this will confirm if there is an issue with the webcam.

If you are still having problems when trying to use particular programs, please contact us for further support

There is only a blank picture in Amcap

In the options menu, select 'preview'.

The webcam video is blank in a chat program

Please ensure that Amcap is closed before using chat programs.

The microphone cuts out when making Skype calls

Overcompensating for background noise may cause this. Go into tools>options>audio settings. Ensure that the Venus USB 2.0 webcam is selected as the microphone. Next, ensure that the box marked "Let Skype adjust my audio settings" is unchecked. Save your settings before closing the window.

I cannot save videos as the file is too large

The video files can be quite large, as they are uncompressed - this will be further affected by higher resolutions. To make the file size smaller, reduce the resolution by clicking on options>Video capture Pin. Click on the output size dropdown menu to select the appropriate size. Please note that the majority of special effects will not work on resolutions greater than 640 X 480.  Please note that increasing the output size and frame rate will increase the file size

Mac

The video settings menu is greyed out in webcam monitor

The webcam will not work in Skype

Please ensure that all other software that is using the webcam is closed before using skype.

The webcam will not work in Photobooth

If your Mac has a built-in camera already, Photobooth will default to that camera. As there is no way to change this setting in Photo Booth this initially makes it difficult to use with external cameras. One way of using the aGent webcam with Photobooth is to first open WebCam Monitor and pick the Mac's internal iSight camera in Video Settings. This will start a video window in WebCam Monitor for your built-in camera and prevent Photo Booth being able to use the same device. When you start up Photo Booth it will automatically select the aGent webcam and work as expected.
